The report looks at Criminal Contempt and particularly the way it affects freedom of speech and expression, and efforts to ensure judicial accountability. By laying out the law and procedure on criminal contempt in India and judicial interpretation, this report attempts to explore the scope of criminal contempt, parameters devised by courts for determining a speech as contemptuous and the application of the law by the judiciary.
ABOUT US
PART III – Action Research & Resource Centre engages with intersectional themes of law, human rights and social justice with a vision to reclaim Fundamental Rights enshrined in Part III of the Indian Constitution.
We strive to combine efforts with the disadvantaged communities in their pursuit to seek justice, dignity and systemic accountability through legal intervention, training, research and advocacy. Part III works closely with survivors of systemic and identity-based violence along with community-based organisations.
Part III – Action Research & Resource Centre, is a programme of Part 3 Foundation, registered as a Trust. It was established in June 2022 and is based in New Delhi.

Areas of Work
Research
Involved in in-depth participatory and legal research apart from advocacy work around the themes of human rights and social justice.
Intervention
Intervenes as lawyers, mitigators and activators of the community support system.
Training
We conduct participatory training workshops with survivors of identity based violence and activists from community organizations.
Advocacy
Research and intervention inform the advocacy carried out by Part III around thematic issues and in individual cases.
