Hindi Training Material on the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, 1989

Author: Vanshika Mohta

As part of its action research and intervention on caste-based violence, Part III conducts training sessions in Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, and Delhi for activists, volunteers, and community members. These sessions focus on educating participants about the legal rights of survivors and complainants under the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, 1989, as well as their rights under broader criminal procedures. The training material, developed in Hindi for this purpose and attached with this post, is regularly updated based on insights gained from these sessions and ongoing research.

The material provides an overview of the law, explains what constitutes atrocities under the Act, outlines the timelines for legal processes, and details the rights of victims and survivors, including compensation entitlements and the steps to claim it.

Whether you are a lawyer, activist, community volunteer, or simply interested in this topic, we welcome your comments, corrections, suggestions, and feedback on the training material. Since our work is primarily based in Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, and Bihar, the material is prepared in Hindi. Feel free to write to us at [email protected] for translations in other languages; we would be happy to assist, wherever possible.
