This session was scheduled for the new batch of Misaal’s Stitching Centre, a vocational training centre. Every three months, the organisation accommodates a new batch of fresh learners – a mixed group of 30 women and girls from the Muslim community. Since this was a new batch, it was decided with Misaal’s team that the training would revolve around fundamental rights and gender rights. An hour-long discussion was held on rights and freedom in general and the fundamental rights in the Constitution. This sparked conversations around religious freedom under the Constitution. Two short videos were screened for the group followed by a discussion in which women shared their experiences of freedom and ways in which their freedom/rights are curtailed by the society. At the end of the session a group of 2-3 young girls sought suggestions on college admissions and specifically for studying law.
