We organized a one-day legal training for the Nodal Officers of Vikas Mitra as a follow-up to the earlier sessions held for Vikas Mitras on 20 and 21 September this year. The training covered the basics of criminal procedure, including how to draft a complaint or FIR, steps to take when the police refuse to register an FIR, the importance of documentation, and the process for downloading FIRs from the Bihar State Crime Record Bureau website.
Facilitators also engaged participants in detailed discussions on the challenges faced in implementing the provisions of the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, such as ensuring the timely disbursement of compensation. Strategies were shared for addressing situations where state actors fail to uphold the rights of complainants and survivors. The session further included an overview of the Act, guidance on reading the bare text of the law, and practical insights to strengthen the officers’ role in supporting access to justice.
