Report – In The Name Of Tiger

In the Name of Tiger: A Case Study of Displacement in Durgawati Tiger Reserve, Madhya Pradesh, critically examines the social and legal costs of India’s tiger conservation policies on forest-dwelling and Adivasi communities. The report traces the colonial roots of India’s forest laws, the rise of fortress conservation through Project Tiger and the NTCA, and the resulting displacement and loss of rights among indigenous peoples. Drawing from field research in Madhya Pradesh, it exposes how conservation often operates through exclusion and forced relocation, rather than coexistence and justice.
