Two-Day Training – Yuva Netrutva Aur Sangathit Hone Ke Tarike – Patna, Bihar

On 27 and 28 May 2025, Part III organised a two-day training on Yuva Netrutva aur Sangathit Hone ke Tarike at Bihar Dalit Vikas Samiti, Patna. The training brought together Dalit and Adivasi youth from Danapur, Phulwari (Hinduni), and Samptchak to reflect on their experiences, understand each other’s struggles related to caste and gender, and explore ways of building collective leadership for social change. Facilitated by Tanmay, Govind, Satya, and the Part III team, the sessions aimed to strengthen youth leadership, encourage cross-learning, and initiate dialogue on the challenges and possibilities of organising together.

Using interactive and participatory methods such as Theatre of the Oppressed, social justice songs, World Café, and sharing circles, the training created a space for active engagement. Day 1 began with energising ice-breakers, followed by group activities where participants created freeze-frame images representing both objects and emotions, leading to discussions on how everyday power, discrimination, patriarchy, and caste operate. A role-play exercise on power relationships encouraged reflection on subtle forms of authority and control in families and communities. This opened conversations on male privilege, gender-based barriers, and the intersection of caste and gender.

Day 2 began with reflections from the first day, followed by small group discussions based on shared geography. Using the World Café method, participants identified key challenges in their areas, including unemployment, lack of social awareness, weak leadership, poor education, dowry, early and forced marriages, gender and caste discrimination, and lack of solidarity among marginalised communities. They then proposed solutions such as setting up community libraries, creating awareness on education and social issues, collectivising for change, and cultivating women’s leadership.

The final sessions focused on why building a collective is essential and how to sustain it over time. Participants were encouraged to break the silence on personal and community-level challenges, use slogans and songs to mobilise, and work together to address social, economic, political, and cultural issues. The training concluded with a presentation summarising discussions and activities, and committing to consistent follow-up engagement with the youth to focus on building their leadership.
