About the Organisation

Part III is an Action Research & Resource Centre for upholding fundamental rights. We currently focus on identity-based discrimination and violence and access to justice for disadvantaged communities in the states of Delhi NCR, Bihar, and Uttar Pradesh. 

We work closely with oppressed communities, particularly survivors of systemic and identity-based violence, to advance justice, dignity, and systemic accountability through legal intervention, training, research, advocacy, and engagement with public institutions.

Part III actively collaborates with community-based organisations, legal professionals, and government institutions to strengthen access to justice and promote institutional accountability.

About the Project

Part III is launching a pilot action-research project in Bihar to further community engagement in addressing caste-based violence and to strengthen institutional response mechanisms. Bihar continues to record high rates of caste-based atrocities, and the project aims to address both immediate and structural barriers faced by marginalised communities.

Our multi-pronged approach will focus on:

      • Legal aid and systemic support for survivors of violence;

      • Community outreach, especially engaging with youth and local stakeholders, to empower them as agents of change in their communities;

      • Strategic advocacy with government bodies and the judiciary to push for survivor-centric institutional responses and effective implementation of special laws like the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, 1989;

      • Participatory Documentation and research to expose systemic gaps and support policy reform.

    About the Role

    The Social Worker will play a central role in building deep, sustained relationships with communities affected by caste-based violence while also working closely with Part III’s legal and research teams. The role involves supporting survivors, monitoring case-related or other socio-economic developments within the affected community over time, building grassroots leadership, engaging in local advocacy, and facilitating coordination between affected communities and formal systems of justice.

    A key part of the position will also include advocacy with government officials, including those of law enforcement and the judiciary, to strengthen access to justice and institutional accountability.

    This is a full-time position based in Patna, Bihar.

    Key Responsibilities

        • Plan and conduct community outreach, field visits, and fact-finding missions, and draw up reports in consultation with the relevant community and government stakeholders.

        • Provide para-legal and case-related assistance to survivors in navigating the criminal justice system and government support mechanisms, including drafting letters, filing representations, RTIs, and complaints to human rights bodies such as NHRC, NCW, NCSC, NCST, etc.

        • Conduct frequent community visits and monitor the status of cases.

        • Facilitate training and capacity-building sessions with community members, grassroots organisations, and other relevant stakeholders, empowering them to act as local advocates for social justice within their sphere of influence.

        • Support building of networks within and across relevant communities,I ncluding between community members and relevant government functionaries, to facilitate community-led action and research.  

        • Assist in the design and implementation of community-based campaigns and advocacy meetings with government bodies and judicial fora to strengthen survivor-centric processes and address systemic barriers in access to the criminal justice system.

        • Strengthen collaborations between community-based organisations and the formal justice system to ensure survivors receive holistic and sustained support.

        • Assistance in office programs and activities, including attending/conducting meetings, preparing field reports, reviewing reports, periodic reports, and other necessary documents that the organization might require.

      Desired Qualifications

        • Proven experience in social work, community mobilisation, case management, or grassroots advocacy.

        • Interest and understanding of human rights, social justice, community engagement,  contextual realities, and the challenges faced by Dalit communities. 

        • Sensitivity towards survivors of caste and gender-based violence.

        • Strong commitment to field work.

        • Good communication and organisational skills.

        • Proficiency in reading, writing, and understanding Hindi, English or any local language is an advantage.

      Women identifying candidates and candidates from socially and economically disadvantaged backgrounds living in Patna will be given preference.

      Place and Duration of Work

      This is a full-time position based in Patna, Bihar. The role will primarily involve fieldwork in the Patna district, with occasional travel to nearby areas as required. The initial contract will be for one year, including a three-month probation period. Extension will depend on performance and project needs.

          Remuneration

          The salary will be commensurate with the candidate’s qualifications and experience, within an approximate range of ₹2,40,000 – ₹3,00,000 per annum.
